Waiting for Christmas in prison for Xu, Antonietta, Vera, Lucrezia and Mariangela is like many other hours of waiting. To wait for an interview, for dinner, for lunch, for the lawyer's visit, for their clean laundry, and above all for their sentence to be up. The inmate protagonists lead us through the corridors of their conscience where good and evil chase each other relentlessly. But everyone in the game of the nativity scene has a dream: to be an angel and have white wings. Justice lives here, we are told, leaving this story. Justice lives where it is found, together with Tenderness, it is added. Or man and what remains of him are lost. In the courtyard there’s a tree full of lights. Then we glimpse a flock of white wings gliding over the roofs of the city, like a dream, a desire, a mirage perhaps.
